Sonia Ortega

As a kid in Nicaragua, Sonia was always thinking about exciting adventures and places to go. She was fascinated with the idea of exploring the ocean and the sky. Today, as a Marine Biologist and amateur pilot, Sonia sees both worlds! At Duke University Marine Laboratory in North Carolina, she SCUBA dives to research oysters, trying to learn why the oyster catch is decreasing. Her advice to adventurous kids: “Never miss a chance to learn, because you never know when your skills could be useful. Everything is possible when you set your mind to it. Trust yourself and follow your dreams.”
